First Home Buyer Grants
If you are a first home buyer you may be entitled to receive one or more of the following:
- First Home Owners Concession;
- First Home Owners Grant;
- First Home Bonus;
- Regional Bonus.
Summary of entitlements
First Home Owner Grant (FHOG)
The FHOG provides eligible first home buyers with a $7,000 grant for purchasing any home valued up to $750,000. This grant is not means tested.
First Home Bonus (from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010)
If you are eligibile to receive the FHOG you may also be entitled to receive and additional Bonus payment of $2,000 (for established homes) or $11,000 (for brand new homes). To be eligible to receive the Bonus the purchase price of the home must not exceed $500,000 and you must sign the contract between 1 July 2009 and 30 June 2010.
First Home Bonus (from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2012)
If you are eligibile to receive the FHOG you may also be entitled to receive and additional Bonus payment of $13,000 (for brand new homes only). To be eligible to receive the Bonus the purchase price of the home must not exceed $600,000 and you must sign the contract between 1 July 2010 and 30 June 2012.
Regional Bonus (1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010)
For contracts signed between 1 July 2009 and 30 June 2010 for the purchase or construction of a new home in a regional municipality in Victoria a $4,500 Regional Bonus is available in addition to the $11,000 Bonus.
Regional Bonus (1 July 2010 to 30 June 2012)
For contracts signed between 1 July 2010 and 30 June 2012 for the purchase or construction of a new home in a regional municipality in Victoria a $3,000 Regional Bonus is available in addition to the $13,000 Bonus.
First Home Owner Boost (the Boost)
The Boost supplements the $7,000 FHOG. The Boost provides:
Contracts entered into before 30 September 2009
- An additional $7,000 to first home buyers whobuy an existing home; and
- An additional $14,000 to first home buyers who build a new home or purchase a new home.
Contracts entered into between 1 October 2009 and 31 December 2009
- An additional $3,000 to first home buyers who buy an established home; and
- An additional $7,000 to first home buyers who build a new home or purchase a new home.
The Boost ceased to apply for contracts entered into or or after 1 January 2010.
