Kate Taylor always wanted to study Law. But her fascination with the creative arts was also strong, so after completing an Arts/Media degree, Kate studied, worked, and thrived in film making, photography and writing for many years. Kate worked for Film Victoria and fostered a successful career doing what she loved – creating, collaborating and crafting stories.
However, the pull of Law never really went away. Kate returned to study and completed a second degree in Law across three and a half years, juggling full-time work and intense study. She graduated in 2021 and has recently completed her Practical Legal Training, now awaiting admission to practice as a lawyer.
Kate was born and grew up in Bendigo, leaving to go to Melbourne for her first degree and returning in 2019 – almost 20 years later. Kate has been with Robertson Hyetts since mid-2021 and works in the Property team, focusing mainly on large sub-divisions.
Kate’s passion for film has not left her, and unsurprisingly her favourite Bendigo haunt is the Star Cinema in Eaglehawk.
“Many of the things I loved about my first degree and career at Film Victoria – teamwork, collaboration, creative problem solving and communicating complex concepts – are all part of what I do in Law today.”
Her experience and background give Kate a unique perspective when dealing with clients and legal matters – she has an innate ability to juggle multiple projects, connect and build rapport with people, and explain complicated regulations with ease.
The lure of storytelling and connection remains strong, and Kate uses these to her advantage in her new career as she continues her legal training with the support of the Robertson Hyetts team.
